Anna’s Corner – Journal Entry 1

Hi! I’m excited to be journaling my time at Generator! This past week, I’ve been getting used to the swing of things and the workflow! The Generator team welcomed me with open arms and I couldn’t be more excited to experience working in the industry. It’s been great to be creative and produce plenty of work. It’s only my second week and I have worked on various advertisements, social media posts, motion graphics, a double-page print ad and illustrations. I created a short motion graphics piece for “Naples Pizza” to showcase what they have to offer. I enjoy doing social media posts because it allows me to create bold, eye-catching pieces that tell a story or capture a message through design.

I’m happy to have met Mando! He greeted me the first time I walked in the door and was super friendly! He hasn’t tried to steal my lunch yet, but he’s always interested in what I’m working on and walks into my office to see what I’m up to. I have three cats at home, so Mando keeps me company while I’m working!

Coming from the Graphic Design program at St. Clair College, I’ve been able to apply my knowledge and skill set. In school, they teach you the fundamentals and principles of design. I have incredible professors and made some amazing friends. They teach you everything, print, web design, motion graphics, logo design, production, and layout; it’s what you choose to do with it that counts. In school you have to put in the time and work by attending class, taking notes, and putting your best foot forward. I hit the ground running with every project I produced in school, I was excited to learn a new program, watch a demo, or talk about a project. All the courses lead you up to the Grad Show and start an internship. Now, being in the position I’ve worked so hard to get into has been a really rewarding experience for me.

Design is my passion. It’s what I love to do. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like work. When you find something you love and can make a career out of it — It’s the best feeling to be creative every day!
